Tuesday Topic: Staying sane :-)

I thought of this one last night during a little "emergency" sanity walk that I took by myself. What are your favorite little sanity measures? I mean, simple, everyday kinds of things that you do to take care of yourself. I'm not talking about a week at the beach, or a Paris vacation, or anything like that here, just the simple things. :-)

  1. Sanity measures: Read Christian fiction, take a nap, take a long walk, watch something (movie or TV show) that is light-hearted. Something I don't do in order to keep my sanity: I don't watch scary TV (NCIS is about the edge of what I watch, Criminal Minds gives me nightmares)

  2. Oh I hope there are lots of answers because I need all the help I can get to stay sane! I also usually have a book going that I can pick up and read for even a few minutes. Take a walk every morning. Do my utmost to get to bed early.

  3. actually... some time of intense Bible study is always good for me - time with no distractions, no interruptions, even if it is only a half hour or so. trying a new recipe and figuring out how to make it work with what i have on hand. watching old episodes of dr quinn medicine woman for the n-teenth time. reading. coffee with a friend. writing a letter or email to a friend. chatting with my mom on messenger. playing with our pets... helping a friend or serving at church - anything, really, that takes me out of the stress of my everyday-all-the-time-obligations helps to restore sanity... and perspective.

  5. This is a great topic! For me, getting out of the house is always helpful, even if it is a short errand that I can do without my kids. Sometimes just getting out by myself for 20 minutes is all that I need. I also love reading but have also surprised myself by really enjoying a couple of TV shows lately. I have never really watched much TV but this year I found a couple of good and wholesome shows on itunes and I feel like sometimes my brain is so exhausted that I can't even read a book and enjoy it. At those moments, I've enjoyed watching a TV show.

  6. I started taking karate classes...something I never really imagined. Somehow being able to kick and punch things helps me to cope when things get really crazy! I was actually thinking about blogging about this very topic sometime...good one!

  7. I also find reading Christian fiction helps... and Writing! This post helped me as well as I get ready to move to Thailand. In my previous (short) trips I really found journaling helped me process through things. When I was younger naps honestly helped; I'd open the Bible to Psalms sometimes, at random, meditate on what I found, and fall asleep. Now that I'm older the naps are coming back...so I should get going on the Psalms part again!!! :)
